Assistant Principal (Learning & Teaching)

We are delighted to offer the following opportunity, commencing July/August 2022:

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL (LEARNING & TEACHING)

Applications are invited from holders of recognized teaching qualifications for the SLT (Senior Leadership Team) role of Assistant Principal (Learning & Teaching). Whereas what we teach will remain firmly within the ‘Curriculum’ remit of the Vice Principal, the Assistant Principal (Learning & Teaching) is to lead on how we teach it.

The successful candidate, will use their initiative and their experiential understanding of whole school change management to build upon the whole-school culture of learning-centred, research-led and evidence-based learning and teaching, now developing, to deliver continually improving outcomes for learners.

This will involve research, delivering CPD and INSET (In-Service Training) and supporting Directors of Learning in monitoring, evaluating and innovatively improving learning and teaching across the school.

We are looking for someone with a verifiable ‘no nonsense’ approach to identifying and removing barriers to learning, wherever these exist. They will be passionate about learning, will have made a measurable whole-school impact in their present role and will have a clear whole-school perspective. Preferred candidates will have either a master’s degree (or other postgraduate qualification) in educational leadership, or a relevant teaching qualification and at least three years of successful practice as a middle or senior leader within a school. They will be experienced in school improvement planning at this level.

The Infant Jesus Academy is an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates. As a provider of employment and education, we value diversity amongst our staff and our learners alike; and our staff are equally valued and respected whatever their role.

We are committed to providing a fair, equitable and mutually supportive learning environment for young people and working environment for staff. However, preference will be given to candidates who hold a Second Class (Upper) degree (or better) from recognized institutions and who are certified to teach IGCSE. Upon appointment, the Assistant Principal (Learning & Teaching) will join SLT, comprised presently of the Principal, a Vice Principal, an Assistant Principal (Pastoral), a Business Manager and an Operations Manager. Being SLT, the appointee will be regarded as ‘on-call’ in the same way as all other members of SLT: their hours will not be subject to the same regulations as those of less senior staff.

Depending upon subject specialism, they may also be asked to assume responsibility as Director of Learning for an assigned curriculum area as part of the job. The Infant Jesus Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and the successful applicant will be subject to references, background checks and training in IJA Safeguarding policy and procedure.
